From 15 to 18 April 2026, Cameroon lived through a historic event, welcoming His Holiness Pope Leo XIV for the first time since the beginning of his pontificate. This apostolic visit, which took the Holy Father to Yaoundé, Bamenda and Douala, stirred an exceptional surge of fervour within the Catholic Church of Cameroon, mobilising dioceses, associations, ecclesial movements, religious communities and faithful who came from every region of the country. At the heart of this spiritual mobilisation, the Movement of the Incarnation distinguished itself by its commitment and its active participation in the various stages of this pastoral journey.
Commitment and Mobilisation
In Bamenda, the Movement of the Incarnation took part in the pontifical Mass and contributed to the liturgical animation through song. This missionary momentum continued in Douala, where members of the Word of God Groups took part in the Holy Father's Mass celebrated at Japoma Stadium. Some assisted with the welcome and protocol service. In Yaoundé, the involvement of the Movement of the Incarnation took several forms, first during the Supreme Pontiff's meeting with the academic world at the Catholic University of Central Africa (UCAC). Under the coordination of Dr Henri Bayemi, Founder and General Leader of the Movement of the Incarnation, the members of the Word of God Groups accompanied the faithful in prayer through songs and the prayers of the faithful during the Liturgy of the Word of God led by Father Don Steve Bobongo, thus fostering an atmosphere of recollection.
A Time of Grace for the Movement of the Incarnation
On Saturday, 18 April 2026, on the occasion of the closing Mass of Pope Leo XIV's apostolic visit at the Mvan Air Base in Yaoundé, Dr Henri Bayemi, Founder of the Movement, had the privilege of greeting the Holy Father. He presented to the Supreme Pontiff the Word of God Prayer Sheet, as well as a signed copy of his book entitled “The Art of Loving.” This moment of grace will remain engraved in the history of the Movement of the Incarnation as a powerful sign of communion with the universal Church.
A Lasting Spiritual Legacy
This apostolic visit, prepared in prayer within the Movement of the Incarnation, leaves a lasting spiritual legacy. For the members, the coming of the Holy Father strengthens their commitment to live the Word of God and to proclaim the Gospel. The visit of Pope Leo XIV to Cameroon remains a powerful witness of hope and unity. It will remain inscribed in the history of the Catholic Church in Cameroon and in that of the Movement of the Incarnation, in order to pursue its mission with fidelity: to live the Word of God.
