The Genesis of the Project
Given the ever-growing number of faithful present at our great retreats in the month of August in Bamenda (Cameroon), the Word of God Group found itself faced with the need to acquire its own retreat centre in order to reduce the expenses linked to organising this event.
As a reminder, the Movement's first great retreat, which took place in August 1996, had gathered 35 people. Last year (August 2017), there were nearly 2,500 participants taking part. That is more than 70 times the total number of participants recorded 21 years ago! And by the grace of the Eternal One we hope for even more in the years to come. The retreats so far are held in several sessions, spread over 3 weeks, and take place both at Notre Dame des Nations College in Yassa - Douala and at Our Lady of Lourdes College in Bamenda.
Down payment on the land for the retreat centre (4 hectares - 18,000 Euros)
It is on the strength of this observation that the Movement decided to acquire its own Retreat centre, with a capacity able to accommodate more than 1,500 people. The first step was the purchase of a piece of land to house the centre. The land is located in the diocese of Obala (Obala - Cameroon) and has an area of 4 hectares. To date, the Movement has already contributed the sum of 18,000 Euros for the acquisition of this land.
