UNFAITHFULNESS IN MARRIAGE (PART ONE)

A serious problem in couples

A priest once recounted that a study had been carried out in his parish to determine the causes of problems in marriages. It turned out that the greater part (90%) of the problems couples faced was caused by unfaithfulness.

Unfaithfulness today seems to be the daily lot of many couples. Unfaithfulness shows itself in a couple when the husband has one or several mistresses, commonly called ‘side offices.’ It must also be said that coming across women who cheat on their husbands is becoming more and more common and seems to be gradually entering the customs of our society. If in the past women had more scruples about hiding their unfaithfulness, the modern woman today often does not fail to boast to her friends about having another man in her life, when there is not more than one. Still others are more discreet about it. What also happens in unfaithfulness is that, even if a spouse does not actually cheat on their partner, they do so in their thoughts and in their heart; in their sometimes unspoken regrets over their unfortunate choice. Some spouses find themselves at times held captive by an unconfessed flame for someone else’s spouse, or outright for another partner. How many times have we listened to the sighs of those who regretted a former relationship they had before marriage! In those sighs, they never failed to express that surely, had they married that former sweetheart, things would be different. (To be continued)
