The Holy Spirit, the Gift of Jesus, Draws Us into the Dynamism of the Trinity

The Pope led the praying of the Angelus on this Sunday of the Holy Trinity. “In the Trinity we also recognize the model of the Church, in which we are called to love one another as Jesus has loved us,”

Francis explained to the very many pilgrims gathered in Saint Peter’s Square. Love is the concrete sign that manifests faith in God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is love that distinguishes the Christian, he emphasized.

Thus, the Pope went on, it is a contradiction to think of Christians who hate one another! This is what the devil always seeks: to make us hate one another, for he sows the discord of hatred; he does not know the love that is God! We are all called to bear witness to the love of Jesus, a God who is not distant or indifferent to our human histories.

Reflections of the Trinity
God loved us so much that he became man, Francis recalled — this love of Jesus that is difficult to understand but that we feel when we draw near to Him. It is He who always forgives us, who always waits for us, He who loves us so much!

The Holy Spirit is the gift of the risen Jesus; he communicates to us the divine life and draws us into the dynamism of the Trinity, the Pope continued — a dynamism of love, of communion, of mutual service, of sharing. A person who loves others for the very joy of loving, a family in which its members love and help one another, a parish in which spiritual and material goods are shared — these are all reflections of the Trinity.

True love is without limits, yet it knows how to limit itself in order to go out to meet the other, to respect the freedom of the other. Every Sunday we go to Mass to celebrate the Eucharist; we celebrate it “together.” The Eucharist is like the burning bush in which the Trinity dwells and humbly gives itself. This is why the Church has placed the feast of the Body of Christ after that of the Trinity, the Pope concluded, recalling that next Thursday he would go to the Basilica of Saint John Lateran to celebrate this feast of Corpus Domini, inviting the faithful who are able to come, or to accompany him in prayer.
